INDONESIAN EARTHQUAKE: Sri Lanka Aftermath

Dec 29, 2004; Galle, SRI LANKA; Almost 77,000 people are confirmed dead after the devastating Asian tsunami and the death could reach 100,000 according to the Red Cross. The US earlier said it was more than doubling its pledge of funds to the region to $35m. The 9.0 magnitude quake happened just off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra early on Sunday and set off huge waves that reached as far as Africa. Pictured: Hundreds of bodies in a makeshift morgue in the hospital in Galle on the South western coast of Sri Lanka. Some 1000 bodies lay in the hospital.
