March 10, 2008 - Lagoa Azul 2, Amazonas, Brazil - Amazon indian tribe called Sater-mau battle local police over a land disbute. Five months pregnant indian , Mani Sater, 21, tries to stop troops, from removing her people with her one year old on her hip. The advance of Amazonas state policemen who were expelling the woman and from a privately-owned tract of land on the outskirts of Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. Her husband and 400 other tribe members are squatting on a rural sector between the cities of Itacoatiara and north of Manaus in the state of Amazonas. An group of local natives the Satere took over a property illegally, which is owned by a Japanese citizen who asked the police to intervene in removing the natives from his property. The landless peasants tried in vain to resist the eviction with bows and arrows against police using tear gas and trained dogs. The police inprisoned her after knocking her down and shooting her in the leg. Her baby and her husband were injuried and detented as well.
